Building Genuine Connections in a Digital Age

In a world where we’re constantly connected through screens, it's easy to forget the importance of connecting in-person. While digital platforms give us instant access to others, they lack the depth and nourishment that comes from meeting people face-to-face.

That’s why HerTribeNZ🌿 is all about creating meetup opportunities for women who’d like to meet in person, build meaningful relationships and create forever friends. One of the most powerful examples of this happened when a woman named Rachel attended one of our speed friendship events. Nicki had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and was in a very dark place. She’d lost her zest for life, and had attempted to take her own life… Her husband, desperate to help, encouraged her to attend a Tribe speed-friendship event, promising he would wait outside with the car running for a quick escape if she didn’t enjoy herself.

Well, enjoy herself she did! Rachel arrived, fully expecting to give the whole debacle 5 mins (max) and then make a run for the door. What followed, was a complete surprise for Nicki, and for her husband! She didn’t leave. In fact, she stayed the whole time and not only did she meet several wonderful women, she ended up enjoying herself so much she left bubbling with excitement ‘oooh! I hope the girls get in touch’. They did, and now Rachel has five close friends and has a rekindled joy for life. And yes, she’s still going strong, her health has stabilised and five years later she’s a new woman!

Gestalt Psychotherapy and Holistic Connection

This story is a reminder of how critical it is to view people as whole beings - the core tenet of Gestalt Psychotherapy. Gestalt focuses on the idea that a person is more than just their mind or their body – they are a whole unit, shaped by their relationships, environment, and experiences. Having a supportive network of people who truly ‘see’ you can make an immense difference to mental health.

The Tribe is built on this holistic approach, providing women with a sense of belonging that goes beyond the superficial. Studies have shown that loneliness and isolation can significantly harm mental and physical health. In fact, it’s been suggested that lonliness is as dangerous to our health as smoking a packet of cigarettes a day!! Not only that but it dramatically increases the risk of anxiety, depression, and even heart disease.
