Female friendships are some of the most powerful sources of emotional and mental support. Throughout my time leading HerTribeNZ🌿, I’ve seen countless examples of women finding strength, belonging, and happiness through the friendships they’ve formed within our community.
For many of us, these friendships fill a critical gap in our social networks.
As a private therapist, there are 2 questions I ask every client:
Tell me about your home base
Tell me about your social network
Time and again, I hear stories of wonderful women (just like you!) losing touch with her childhood friends or feeling isolated after moving, or struggling with the home/life balance. The problem is, when we lack a social support system, the impact on our mental health is profound.
The Mental Health Benefits of Friendship
Friendship is not just a ‘nice-to-have’—it’s actually essential for mental well-being. When we feel, seen, heard, and supported, our levels of stress and anxiety decrease. Numerous studies highlight the importance of having close social bonds, as they lead to lower rates of depression and greater emotional resilience (Donorbox)( Claromentis).
At HerTribeNZ🌿, we create a safe place for women to connect with other women who’re not only keen to get out and meetup. They’re also wanting to make new friends. Think of Tribe events as blind dates for friendship and work well for everyone! No matter how long you've been out of the social scene and best of all, they’re designed to be attended solo. So, whether you’re shy, introverted, or simply haven’t had the chance to make new friends as an adult, Tribe events provide the perfect environment to foster life-changing forever friends.
With each event, we witness women coming out of isolation, rediscovering their confidence, and feeling the positive effect of friendship on their mental health. Suddenly, she’s looking forward to the weekend, has friends she can confide in during life's ups and downs and knows she’s loved. Self confidence grows, anxiety resolves itself and, before you know it, life is fabulous again. That is the power of women. That is the power of friendship.
